Today we are at our second attempt to enroll at the Govt clinic , Last time we had been there a couple of months ago , the clerk at the counter who could not read the ‘positive’ report [from private clinic] had sent us back , so we had opted for Private clinic for all checkups , but as months are passing by we have to enroll at the clinic , so that she can deliver the baby at Sabah Hospital [costs just KD2 for delivery]. A week ago after running from pillar to post at the clinic somehow i came to know from a cleaner that ”registration day is Sat, Sun and Tuesday morning , There is only one doc so come early as 6.30 am.” May God bless this good Samaritan who at least showed mercy on a stranger . We ‘belong’ to the Clinic next to the Sultan Center in Salmiya . Despite of us coughing up that KD50 health insurance , we feel as if we are in Apartheid era South Africa. There is not a single “Englaizy” sign board . If you do not speak/read Arabic there is no difference between you and a Buffalo . I tried to speak to some of the nurses/Doctor’s/People at the counter … some of them don’t speak English , [hence are forgiven] … others who do speak English are either too busy or too head strong to ‘help’.. “ironic” if they have not taught at the medical school to ‘help the needy’ .. ..
What baffles me is that the lack of English sign board or English speaking clerks … With all due respect to Arabic and Arabic speaking people ,…come on ! it’s 2007 for God Sake not some 1947 . Put some Enlglish sign boards , and Information . A reception may be,for Informations . God ! Where are we ,in Yemen ? And despite of making millions of Dinars in revenue through health insurance and being the most richest country in the world why there are no Clinics in every Block . I mean Salmiya has 12 blocks and the most populated area in Kuwait and just two clinics ? and one Gynecologist at one clinic ? What a shame ! Even the third world county like Bangladesh has more doctors and better facilities . Why cant there be clinics in every block ? In fact there should be three clinics in every block .
I am awake since 4.30 am , i just couldn’t sit outside doing nothing , thank God to the private clinics in Kuwait at least the husband gets to sit with his wife while waiting for the doc and even go inside with her and see the baby heartbeats ..As i said we were there at the clinic at 6.30am , now it’s almost 8am and i just received a sms from her that the ‘window’ is not open yet , i am keeping my fingers crossed and next i am going to kneel down and pray , probably hold a semi fasting ,for the smooth ‘ opening of the file’ . …
I will update later … about what happened at the clinic once she comes back… ” If you read this befor that “Pray for us ” …. because this part is more difficult than the child birth..
Update 1: She called around 9am to say they have accepted her papers [hurray!] and she did some general tests and is waiting in the lounge to see the gyenac .
Update2 :10.25 am and she hasn’t called yet …. she is there from 6.30am …. it’s 4 hours now and she did not have her breakfast yet ! must be hungry ……. she is pregnant …must be double hungry…
Update3: 10.40 am, She called to say she finished ,[ i am at work ], she said ladies who came after her finished early for some reason [ wasta?] and she had to wait, and now Doctor has asked her to come again for blood test …which means we have to go through this process all over again .
